0989. Accuracy of delivered airway pressure during proportional assist ventilation +. A bench study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Proportional assist ventilation (PAV+) is a partial ventilatory support mode delivering airway pressure (Paw) in proportion to patient effort, enhancing patient-ventilator interactions. The ventilator estimates muscular pressure by using the respiratory system equation of motion with the instantaneous volume (V) and flow (V ́) and the automatically calculated compliance and resistance. The mode gains in popularity but the accuracy of the delivered Paw by PAV+ is unknown.

Accuracy of delivered airway pressure and work of breathing estimation during proportional assist ventilation: a bench study
BACKGROUND Proportional assist ventilation+ (PAV+) delivers airway pressure (P aw) in proportion to patient effort (P mus) by using the equation of motion of the respiratory system. PAV+ calculates automatically respiratory mechanics (elastance and resistance); the work of breathing (WOB) is estimated by the ventilator. The accuracy of P mus estimation and hence accuracy of the delivered P aw a...
متن کاملNew modalities for non-invasive positive pressure ventilation: A review article
Efficiency of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation in the treatment of respiratory failure has been shown in many published studies. In this review article, we introduced new modalities of non-invasive ventilation (NIV), clinical settings in which NIV can be used and a practical summary of the latest official guidelines published by the European Respiratory Clinical Practice. Clinical tri...
متن کاملBedside adjustment of proportional assist ventilation to target a predefined range of respiratory effort.
OBJECTIVES During proportional assist ventilation with load-adjustable gain factors, peak respiratory muscle pressure can be estimated from the peak airway pressure and the percentage of assistance (gain). Adjusting the gain can, therefore, target a given level of respiratory effort. This study assessed the clinical feasibility of titrating proportional assist ventilation with load-adjustable g...
متن کاملNon-invasive proportional assist and pressure support ventilation in patients with cystic fibrosis and chronic respiratory failure.
BACKGROUND Patients with advanced cystic fibrosis can benefit from non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) for the treatment of acute decompensation as well as for the management of chronic respiratory failure. This study was undertaken to compare the physiological effects of non-invasive proportional assist ventilation (PAV) and pressure support ventilation (PSV) on ventilatory patte...

OBJECTIVES To understand the role of patient-ventilator asynchrony in the etiology of sleep disruption and determine whether optimizing patient-ventilator interactions by using proportional assist ventilation improves sleep. DESIGN Randomized crossover clinical trial. SETTING A tertiary university medical-surgical intensive care unit. PATIENTS Thirteen patients during weaning from mechani...
